Carroms and Vintage Finds

I found this wonderful box of vintage game pieces for a game named "carroms". It was apparently played on a board (didn't come with that) and is similar to billards but you use your fingers to flick the rings on the board for points. There are little wooden bowling pins to play bowling carroms too. I just thought the colors were great. Will definitely do something with these down the road.

They were stored in this well worn but lovely vintage holiday box.

Found some beautiful flowered hankies. I cannot resist these even though I have quite a collection. They just seem like the ultimate bargain for such loveliness. I am going to make some pretty cards with these.

New Doll: Mother Nature

This is a theater doll made from paper clay, wood, wool, crepe paper, wire, freshwater pearl beads, vintage book paper, lace, vintage wallpaper, acorn caps, scrim, acrylic paint and vintage elements such as the spun cotton mushroom and carved wooden bird.

Mother Nature was made for the Grafton Vermont Nature Museum exhibit and will be on display there from February 27 - April 23rd.

Little Sitters

Here are some dolls I recently finished. They are weighted "sitter" dolls that I made after being inspired by some on the Gritty Jane workshop. They are more primitive than I usually do but were fun. I weighted them with little bags of PEI sand.

I like the way they can perch around the house in places where you would least expect them.

Dreaming in Plaid

It all started last weekend when my husband found this little series to watch on Netflix called Monarch of the Glen. It is really Scottish soap opera but delightfully funny and oh... the scenery of the Highlands is spectacular. The tweeds, the plaids and men in kilts...what could be better? It has been so frigid here in New England that building a fire and watching the whole first season seemed like the coziest thing to do. I was dreaming in Scottish accents (we really could have used subtitles a lot of the time!) and feeling very plaid-ish.

So I dug out this little sweetie. She is a Vogue Ginny doll dressed in her Scottish plaids that I have had since the 1960's when I started my doll collection as a young girl.

Started poking around the house for more plaid love and found this vintage cotton tablecloth that I always use at the holidays.
